2D ANIMATION WORK

Undergraduate Graduation Project

This 2D animation was a project I spearheaded from start to finish, taking on multiple roles throughout the entire pipeline. As the director and writer, I crafted the narrative and visual style, guiding the story of a child’s fear and fantasy surrounding tooth extraction. I also contributed to the look development, 2D animation, and post-production processes, ensuring that every detail aligned with the emotional tone of the story. The animation explores childhood anxieties through a surreal, imaginative lens, bringing the child’s vivid fears to life with dynamic visuals and strong character design.

Undergraduate Collaborative Project

This 2D animation was a collaborative project created in my third year with three other talented students. I played a key role in the scriptwriting, co-directing, look development, and 2D animation. The story centers on a female protagonist who fantasizes about the joy of having multiple versions of herself to help with housework. However, her idealistic vision turns on her as the creations she once relied on ultimately betray her. This project blends humor and a touch of irony to explore the consequences of over-reliance on one’s own creations, with a visual style that enhances the whimsical yet cautionary tale.

Traditional 2D Animation Practice

This traditional 2D animation project reflects my deep passion for entertainment-driven storytelling. Through hand-drawn animation, I aimed to capture the essence of dynamic character movement and expressiveness, staying true to the spirit of classic animation while incorporating modern techniques. The piece showcases my dedication to the art form, highlighting my skills in character design, timing, and fluid animation. It’s a demonstration of my commitment to creating engaging, entertaining content that resonates with audiences.

Stream-of-Consciousness 2D Animation

This 2D animation serves as an exploration of stream-of-consciousness storytelling. The narrative follows a student as they drift off into a whimsical daydream during class, blurring the line between reality and imagination. Through fluid transitions and surreal visual elements, the animation delves into the intricate workings of the mind, illustrating how fleeting thoughts and fantasies can create a vivid alternate world. This project allowed me to experiment with non-linear narrative structures while emphasizing emotional expression through animation.

Rotoscope-Based 2D Animation

This 2D animation was created using rotoscope techniques, where I traced over live-action footage to bring a new artistic vision to an existing film. By blending the precision of the original footage with my personal artistic style, I was able to explore the balance between realism and creative interpretation. This project highlights my appreciation for visual aesthetics, showcasing how animation can transform a real-world moment into something uniquely artistic. Through this process, I sought to explore the creative potential of reimagining familiar visual content while adding my own artistic touch.

Personal 2D Animation - A Tribute to My Grandmother

This personal 2D animation was created as a heartfelt tribute to my grandmother, capturing my deep sense of longing and remembrance. Through delicate animation and symbolic imagery, I sought to express the emotions and memories that continue to live within me. The animation reflects my admiration for her and the lasting impact she had on my life. It’s a personal exploration of how animation can serve as a medium for emotional expression and a means of honoring loved ones.

Hand-Drawn 2D Animation - Transition from Dog to Beast

This hand-drawn 2D animation is a personal exploration of traditional animation techniques. Using a light table, I meticulously drew each frame to capture the transition of a small dog running into a beast-like creature leaping. Every individual drawing was carefully photographed and sequenced to bring the movement to life. This project allowed me to delve deeper into the fundamentals of animation, embracing the tactile, frame-by-frame process that forms the foundation of traditional animation techniques. The piece highlights my commitment to preserving the artistry and authenticity of classic animation methods.
